The North Atlantic European (NAE) model is run at the Met Office four times a day, and gives a weather forecast for up to 3 days in the future.

We use this weather forecast as input to our Irish Sea model, to help calculate how much heat is exchanged between the ocean and the atmosphere.
Map showing the area covered by the NAE model

The NAE model gives an "analysis" at the base time (t) and a forecast every 3 hours from the base time (t+3, t+6) to a maximun of t+36. It covers the area extending from 48°N to 63°N and 12°W to 13°E with a resolution of 0.11° (about 12km) in both directions.

On these pages we show forecast maps for the Irish Sea (area shown by the red rectangle on the image to the right. The maps are updated four times a day as the results from the next model run arrive.
